Tuesday, January 14The Ale House (Troy)
Hosted by Abby Lublin
7:30 – 9:30 pm
680 River Street
Theme: “Music”

There are few things as universal as music appreciation.  Ok, death.  But unless we plan to have a big, ol’ posthumous party, we have not experienced that firsthand.  Ok, pooping.  We’ve covered that.

But really, in the words of Prophet Bob Marley: “One good thing about music: when it hits, you feel no pain.”  How true, Bob, how true.  Truthfully, there are many good things about music.  Come share a tale of how music saved your life.  Or how you make music.  Or that song, y’know, that song that gets you every. friggin’. time.  Or an example of what a certain kind of music does for you. Maybe you’re a musician… when did you first know?  Come share (or hear) the music of your life at the Ale House this Tuesday night.

Monday, January 20 The Olde English Pub (Albany)
Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
7:30 – 9:30 pm
25 Quackenbush Square
Theme: “Resolutions “

Yes, I know! It is a new year and many of us are thinking how can we be better or different which often translates into a resolution of some kind. Hey, new beginnings…

But also consider that when things are resolved they are done – happy ending, sad ending, whatever the issue is put to rest and we can move on.

So consider a story of something you have resolved to do, or a situation that is resolved. Or perhaps one that you had to remain resolute throughout…

Share widely.

If you’d like to throw your name in the can to tell a story, and you know you’ll be a lil’ late, post a comment here.

See you ’round the mic. And as always…

Listening is an act of love.

Page and Stage

Bookmarks is a “series of group readings featuring writing that is grounded in personal experience” at The Arts Center of the Capital Region based here in Troy. The series is part of The Memoir Project, a program led by the great Marion Roach Smith.

Basically, people submit stories (<750 words), a curator makes selections and puts together an evening of readings w/Q&A in the black box theater space at The Arts Center.  It’s another great opportunity to hone your voice, share a snippet of your experience, and bond with fellow humans.

I’m curating the Feb 3 Bookmarks event. (Yep, busy story week in February!)  The submission DEADLINE is THIS WEDNESDAY, JAN. 8!

Bookmarks call for entries

“Stories from the Other Side”
Curated by Abby Lublin of the Front Parlor Series
Submission Deadline: Wednesday January 8th 2014 by 5pm
Reading: Monday February 3rd 2014 at 7pm
Tell about a time you crossed over (Borders? The law? Mortality? A line of etiquette?) or any experience of being an outsider.

More details at the Bookmarks link above.

Nothing to lose: submit a story!
