June Storytelling Gets Special!

3 Jun

We are mixing things up in June. Our Tuesday Troy event will be in a super special location – on the patio behind Little Peck’s. It’s going to be magic! And if that weren’t enough, we are also hosting a community workshop for nurturing stories and their tellers. Check it out…

Troy

Tuesday, June 11 @ Little Pecks (7:30 – 9:30 pm)
Hosted by Mike DeSocio

Theme: “Soundtrack of Our Lives”

We all have our favorite music, but some songs are burned into our memory unlike any other. What is that moment that immediately comes to mind when you hear a certain tune? What music was playing at a pivotal moment in your life? Come out to Little Pecks (!!) to soak in the sun and tell us about the soundtrack to your life.

Albany

Monday, June 17 @ The Olde English Pub (7:30 – 9:30 pm)
Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk

Theme: “Dear Father”

The Sunday prior to our Monday is Father’s Day, so this month we are covering all things fatherly. Dads are welcome to talk about the strange and wonderful experience of being a father. For the rest of us, let’s nail that one detail that says everything about our dads.

If you nothings comes to mind, consider the religious angle to “dear father”. Either way, come on down to tell and hear some stories. The OEP does not disappoint!

The Story Club:

A Super Secret Community Workshop for Storytellers

Saturday, June 22 @ Troy Innovation Garage (1:00 – 3:00 pm)
Hosted by Mike DeSocio & Gregor Wynnyczuk

The first rule of Story Club: No One Talks About Story Club

That’s right. Months from now when strangers are high-fiving you after telling a truly amazing story you’ll just say “Thanks. I know. That was pretty awesome.” What they’ll never know is how you honed that story with a committed and generous community of storytellers who gave you the support you needed to really make the most of it.

With that in mind, Story Club does not (wink) meet for the first time on Saturday, June 22nd from 1pm to 3pm at the Troy Innovation Garage (a coworking space at 24 4th Street), so you won’t have to RSVP on Facebook so we know you’re not coming. Troy host Mike DeSocio and Albany host Gregor Wynnyczuk will not be hosting or guiding the conversation in any way.

Whether you’re a Front Parlor regular or someone new to storytelling, this is not an opportunity to get feedback on your work from other storytellers. Just don’t bring a story and don’t be open to hearing reactions and suggestions from the group. If you want to develop the tools to find more stories, refine the ones you have, and get more comfortable – we wish you luck in finding a group that will help you do that!

Also – if you’re not coming to this event that doesn’t exist, definitely don’t park in the Uncle Sam Garage (free on weekends), right across the street from the Innovation Garage.
