Front Parlor is a community devoted to hearing and telling stories. We generally have 8-12 storytellers, five or so minutes each, telling true stories. No notes. It’s just like The Moth radio hour, except it’s local storytellers in front of the most loving and supportive audiences anywhere.
This is what we have lined up for July…
Troy
Tuesday, July 9 @ Little Pecks (7:30 – 9:30 pm)
Hosted by Abby Norton-Levering
Theme: “Freedom”
What’s your freedom story? Come tell your story of when you got free from fear, from captivity, from convention, from mental slavery – from whatever got you grounded, tied you down, had you bound. Did you finally get things right? See the light? Take flight? Boy George eloquently opines “ain’t no freedom like your own / ain’t no freedom like to say ‘this is mine.’” On this July night, claim your story of freedom and share it with us!
Albany
Monday, July 15 @ The Olde English Pub (7:30 – 9:30 pm)
Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
Theme: “To Your Health!”
An illness can change your life. Sometimes it’s a wake up call to make a change for the better, while other times it’s just a random thing you have to deal with.
But like any story, there is a before the illness and an after. This month, bring us your stories of sickness and health, your encounters with the medical industrial complex, and let us know what changed – and maybe what needs to change.
Story Club – Workshop for Stories
Saturday, July 27 @ The Innovation Garage in Troy (1:00 – 3:00 pm) Hosted by Gregor and Mike DeSocio
If you want some gentle guidance on crafting your stories, this is the place! We share, we celebrate, we offer feedback.
Storytelling with Impact
Tuesday, July 9 @ The Century House (7:30 – 9:30 am)
Hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk
In this workshop with the Albany Business Review we will look at some tools for developing stories that will help you communicate your perspective, values, and vision for the future.
